Ice Skating In Hoboken

The City of Hoboken in associatio with Advance Realty is hosting an outdoor skating rink this winter, opening on December 22nd, 2016 and operating through February 28th, 2017. Residents in Hoboken are invited to join an opening celebration for the rink, known as the “Harlow Winter Village”, at 3:30pm on December 22nd. Admission is free. Visitors may bring their own skates or rent skates for $10. The (tentative) hours of operation will be Monday through Friday from 2:30pm to 10:00pm and weekends from 9:00am to 10pm.

Toy Drive - Hoboken PD - Still Time To Donate

After re-tweeting the @HobokenPD HPD Toy Drive event which took place on 12-15-2016, and seeing that they would be out on the sidewalk until 7pm on a below freezing day, I decided, the least I could do, is make a donation. Plus, it would be nice to have a fatherly, good Sam (Samaritan) moment with my son. After I picked my son up from school, we did just that.

Highlights from the 2016 Hoboken Christmas Tree Lighting

The night began with a modest, but growing crowd of mostly families andsome commuters walking by who decided to stop. The host, Elvi, a self proclaim and rather large Elf from the North Pole, kicked off the night by introducing the first act and, of course, mentioning the various sponsors such as KIND Snacks and the Apple Montessori school who provided free hot chocolate. Upon hearing of the free coco, my assistant (aka my 6 year old son) quickly ditched his job of taking some video for a cup of hot chocolate and dancing. For me, the highlight was a student from Hoboken High School belting out song which the crowd loved, as you can hear from the cheers. That girl has got some pipes! There were a variety of other dancers, singing and, of course, after the lighting of the tree, Santa Clause arrived. He then toured Washington Blvd on a fire truck and when he returned, he spread some cheer to passersby including one of Hobokens local cosplay people and most importantly, my son. Good show Hoboken!

Yesterday, Dec 7th, while walking home from the Path I passed this gentleman who, presumably works for the city of Hoboken as a street cleaner. I noticed the Christmas decorations on his trash can and felt delight. I asked to take his picture. He agreed. What I love about this photo, this man, is his undaunted holiday spirit. It gave me a smile in these tumultuous times. So, I thought I would share. Enjoy. And, thank you sir. Happy Holidays.

For more than 30 years, the Silletti Brothers (Mike and Vinny) have Christmas Trees, wreaths and assorted accessories for sale at Our Lady Of Grace Church on Willow between 4th and 5th.(The west end of Church Square Park). A portion of sales benefit the Church. And, if you need, the brothers also offer a delivery service so you don't have to haul that really big tree up five flights! Make your Christmas Merry and pick up a Christmas tree soon if you haven't already!

The other day, at the Pilsener Haus, we stopped in for brunch and to see Jungle Gym Jam, which we have added to the service providers channel of the directory.  JGJ, despite the poor audience turn out, performed undanunted and my six year old thoroughly enjoyed the music.  So much so, we bought a CD, which the whole cast signed. That of course made my son very happy. Thanks Jungle Gym Jam!  Let us know when you are in town again, we'll be sure to attend if we can.
